Important message for Learners of Activate Learning

Dear students,

I am sure with the Government’s announcement for the closure of schools and colleges you will be wondering what this means to you.

We can reassure you that while most of you may not be able to come onto campus, we are now moving to a remote learning system to make sure your education continues as smoothly as possible.

We realise that some young people who have parents that are key workers and those with particular learning needs, will need to come onto campus to learn. For those of you this applies to, your tutors will provide you with the details of how to access our college sites in the next few days.

While the Government does not want large groups of students studying together, we realise that some students may still wish to access our campuses. Unfortunately this can only be by prior arrangement.

If you would like to avail yourself of this, please contact Student Services and discuss your needs with them.

If you have particular concerns during your time at home, you can also contact the Safeguarding Team for help and support.

What do you need to do in the next few days?

It is really important that you are communicating with your tutor over the next couple of days and making sure that you are familiarising yourself with your online learning environments and providing your tutor with your most up-to-date contact details so we can stay in touch with you.

What does the decision to cancel exams mean to you?

No one, at the moment, knows what the decision to cancel the summer exams will mean.

When we have the full facts we will let you know immediately. But, it is critical that you now put a great deal of effort into your coursework and assessments, as these are very likely to determine your grade at the end of the year.

We expect a further announcement about this by the end of tomorrow (Friday 20 March).

What will be happening with work placements and work experience (WEX)?

At this time, it is not clear. However our expectations are that they will all need to be deferred.

We will provide more information once we have it.

Self-isolation

The latest guidelines have outlined new processes around self-isolation. From today, anyone experiencing cold-type symptoms should be self-isolating for seven days. If you live with other people, you should stay at home for 14 days from the day the first person got symptoms. 

If you need to self-isolate, please contact your tutor and the Safeguarding team at safe@activatelearning.ac.uk or call 01865 550 401.
